For all indoor cultivators, the most important equipment is grow lights. These lights mimic as natural sun lights to generate higher yields and strengthening the plants. Grow lights comes in various types such as High-intensity discharge lights, Light emitting diodes (LEDs), Metal halides, high-pressure sodium lights, fluorescent lights etc. All these lights have different features and different light output in terms of light spectrum. There is different requirement of lights spectrum by plants at different phases of their growth stage. Since every aspect is so important about grow lights, is the distance between grow lights that matters in the growth rate of a plant. Distance between plant and grow lights:

Distance between grow lights and cannabis make a huge difference in generating better yields. Distance should not be less enough that may burn the upper leaves or change their colour from blooming green to pale yellow. Or grow lights should not be placed too high that the heat and warmth is unable to reach plants.

Even distribution of lights:

Even and uniformed light distribution is extremely important for a plant’s development. Some lights like high-pressure sodium lights generate yellow lights ang large amount of heat. This may burn the upper side of the plant and may burn the buds as well. To avoid this, growers use light reflective walls for their cultivation.

Heat generation:

Heat generation is an important factor. Over heating may cause bad soil texture and dry soil. It may also burn leaves and buds. Less heating may not enhance the plants growth and resistance to disease. This may also lead to fungal infections in plants.

Grow lights as per the grow area size.:

Grow lights should be installed as per the grow area size. Some cultivators install higher number of grow lights to get better yields. But essentially grow lights should cover the entire grow area.

 

The cannabis buds that are closest to the grow light grows larger than other lights. Cultivators use extra grow lights to get higher yields. But extra lights should be places and used wisely as in case the temperature rises in the grow are, the plants may burn its top part which is closest to the lights.

These lights are extremely useful for a plants growth in the first seedling stage. Metal halides emit blue spectrum lights which is best for seed germination, enhancing the roots growth and making them stronger, generating resistance to the plants disease. High-pressure sodium lights:

High pressure sodium lights are a type of high-intensity discharge lights. These lights emit a light spectrum of red to orange and yellow. This spectrum is beneficial for the flowering stage and fruiting stage. These lights are quite powerful and emit higher amount of light and energy. These lights can be used for 2 years to three years. They last longer as compares to metal halides. Ut since these are also high light and heat emitting lights hence the distance should always be checked between plants and lights, in case there is any yellowish portion on the leaves, increase the distance and add more nutrients to the plants. These lights cover specific area hence installations should be as per the grow area size.
